4 Nigerian Artists Who Have Been Accused Of Stealing People’s Songs

Nigerian Superstar Wizkid also known as Starboy is one of the versatile artist in Nigeria. In December, 2019, Wizkid was slapped with a 30 million Naira lawsuit by veteran artist Tony Tetuila. In the law suit, Tony claimed that Wizkid and DJ Tunes stole content from his “Fefe N’efe” track and used it in their “Gbese” track.

Burna Boy

Burna Boy has always been under attack for using samples from former artists and producers. In 2019, a video was released which showed that Burna Boy stole words from Fela’s old songs and also refined some words from Angelique Kidjo’s “Anybody”.

Tiwa Savage

Tiwa Savage has also been accused of stealing a song in 2018. Tiwa savage was accused by an upcoming artist Danny Young for stealing his song. He filed a N205 Million lawsuit for stealing lyrics of his 2009 Single “Oju Tiwon”.


Tekno is one of the consistent Nigerian artists in the entertainment industry. In 2018, he released a hit song “Jogodo” which attracted several accolades. A group in Nigeria called Mad Melon and mountain Black accused Tekno of sampling their song “Danfo Drive” without permission. However, it was disclosed that Tekno went behind closed doors to settle the group with 2 million Naira.
